Glass Millefiore (Chachasao) Beads

  • Tubular glass millefiore beads in these styles have been made in Venice, Italy from about 1800 to 1950 for the African Bead Trade. The word millefiore means "1,000 (mille) flowers (fiore)" and refers to the many small slices of canes that are used when making millefiore mosaic beads.
  • Chachasao is the Ashante word for mosaic beads. Some millefiori beads show the wear of everyday use in Africa.
