Faceted Cane Beads

  • ("Russians") a/k/a Faceted Blues or Corner Cut Blues
  • These blue "Russians", prized for their color and stunning appearance, are excellent examples of Bohemian faceted glass. The name "Russians" was probably coined by Alaskan collectors or dealers. (The beads were not made in Russia, and it is likely they were never, or rarely, used by the Russian fur traders.) The drawn 5 or 6 sided cane is faceted on each corner to give the distinctive look. Cobalt blue was the most favored color, but they were produced in many colors.

  • Higher priced strands are generally deeper shades of translucent cobalt blue, and/or larger beads, and/or better faceted.
Lower priced strands generally have more opaque and/or light blue beads, smaller beads, and/or less facets.
