Dutch/Dogon (Wound Annular) Beads

  • Dogon beads are best known for their unique, irregular shapes and often vibrant color.
  • Very old Dutch "Dogon" trade beads, nearly all of which have some chips, pits or scratches. They all have approximately 4mm holes.
  • These beads have long been thought to be Dutch, hence the name, but are really of German origin.  Less commonly known as "wound annulars."
  • Traded mostly by the Dogon tribe near the western coast of Africa throughout Mali and Senegal, this is why they are often called "Dogon" beads.
